A Glimpse of Spring!

It was pleasantly warm today in the south of England. The spring bulbs are beginning to appear and all my crocuses are in bloom. I was even able to have my lunch outside! It is 5:15 p.m. and still light outside. Does that mean the temperature gauge will start to rise and our daylight will noticeably be longer? I do hope so!

Happy Purple Tuesday!

I have a number or orchids placed around the house. I generally move them upstairs when they stop flowering as I could never throw out a plant which is still alive. What has amazed me in the last couple of weeks is every single one of them is in flower!

Braving the Elements ....

weekend fisherman wait patiently for a catch along the coast at Dungeness in Kent. The Kent headland is well known for its nuclear power station which dominates the shingle landscape. Scattered along side this isolated stretch of coast people reside in small wooden chalet style houses. There are no fences to outline land ownership and gardens seem to house a mismatch of plants, decaying boats and sculptures made out of beach finds.

Sitting comfortably next to this area is Romney Marshes. This salt marsh supports a variety of birds and is home to many different types of fauna. Some of which are considered rare. It's a fascinating place to visit. On a day like today, the wet misty grey weather brings a strong dramatic feel to this unusual and haphazard area of land.

Hastings Hydrangea Blues

I decided on a whim during the week to book up a night away this weekend. We could do some walking and I could try out my new Lensbaby amongst other shots. Ok so it's not going quite to plan, we are on  the SE coast it's windy and its rained pretty much most of the day. Its just too wet to get the camera out. I hope tomorrow  brings better weather  for my plans at Dungeness!

Macro Friday - Dial my number ....

I've had this old dial phone for some time. A friend gave it too me whilst I was in Singapore. Apparently her husband had brought a number of them back from Pakistan. He thought due to their age and history they would sell easily and he would make a quick profit. How wrong he was at the time! In the end they had to give them away to get rid of them!

Subtle Hint of Garlic .....

I'm linking up to The KatEye View and  'Breaking the Rule of Thirds'. Although I am a strong believer in following this rule. It can bring structure and balance to overall image. It's kind of like my obsession with having to have everything level, in line/order etc. I think there's a name for this!! But like everyone rules are meant to be broken and I do have my off days.

Tulip

I love everything about tulips. The brightly coloured bold blooms that burst open overnight. The long uncomplicated stems that support them and their fresh green leaves. Strong enough to brighten up the dullest of days.

To my Valentine ....

a cute gift from my husband to try and cheer me up. However hard he tries he's not going to take away the anger and upset I feel for smashing my car into a slip road barrier!!

Happy Valentines Day!

A splash of colour

It's rained the last two days in Kent but this afternoon I can see a splash of blue sky trying to break through the clouds. At least my Gerbera's are brightening up my day! Hope your day is bright and sunny!

Love is ........

buying a cupcake for your husband. But he left for a business trip Sunday and didn't get the chance to eat it. So I sent him a photo of it and then ate it with my afternoon cup of tea! Well, I'm not one to let good food go to waste!

Taken with my iphone Hipstamatic app.

Bottle of Life

It's been an amazing warm and sunny day. Oh I do hope it last!! I decided I should be outside, enjoying the good weather. Today was a good day to dig over my vegetable patches, which fed the birds with fresh worm's. Then a spot of spring cleaning in my the shed and sorting out seeds for sowing this year. Followed by a nice mug of tea seated on the garden bench watching the frenzy of activity by my garden birds. What a perfect day!

Scarlet Swallowtail

When I read there were exotic butterflies for a limited period in the tropical Glasshouse at RHS Wisley, I just had to go and see for myself. It was an amazing experience walking among the tropical plants surrounded by fluttering butterflies. One even landed on my camera lens as I was taking a shot!

Textures

I have been experimenting with Kim Klassen Textures today. Whilst searching 'Google' trying to find some inspiration for a title I came across Ronald Isleys and Rod Stewarts remake of the song 'This Old Heart of Mine' on You Tube. Oh it certainly brightened up my afternoon running through some of his video clips!
